Recycling Fail: KNOW YOUR HISTORY

Recycling is failing now and it's BEEN failing for decades because it was never designed to WORK. I've been posting this video for about 7 years when I first went to hear Heather Rogers speak at Machine Project in Echo Park (RIP Machine). But the history of recycling started decades before that.

Seven years and a lot has changed, yet a lot is the same. I went through my household and removed as many plastics as possible, only to have them creep in from every direction fairly immediately. As soon as you get sick, or have any kind of emergency you realize how prevalent and systemic this stuff is. There’s no contending with it alone. Perhaps in some parts of the world companies such as Brita and Pur will take back used water filter cartridges, but I don't know where to do that in LA, and even if they do, why waste money, gas or packaging to get it back in their hands when you can just refill the purifying agent inside?
